Polski System Recyklingu Organizacja Odzysku SA (PSR) was established in December 2001. The company was registered by the 20th Commercial Department of the District Court in Warsaw in the National Court Register under entry number 0000095226. The share capital of the company was not collected by way of a public subscription and as at 12.05.2003 amounted to PLN 1,005,000.
The main shareholders of the company are international paper concerns (Mondi Packaging Paper Świecie S.A. and Stora Enso Poland SA) and large municipal firms (enterprises from the Sita Polska Group and MPO Warszawa). In 2002 PSR took over the packaging waste market of nearly 280,000 tons and recovered and recycled nearly 60,000 tons of this waste.
PSR is one of the largest recovery organisations in Poland. It offers total recycling of packaging waste (paper, plastics, aluminium, etc.). Customers of PSR are a sizeable group of enterprises with statutory obligation to recover and recycle packaging waste. PSR also assists in the on-site management of production waste (it does this together with its partners – municipal operators) and provides expert advice in issues relating to waste management. PSR is present at all major events associated with environmental protection and waste management. Its representatives deliver lectures at training courses concerning packaging waste.
PSR has contractors in many sectors (including food, construction, cement, sugar, household goods, etc.). They include both small, family-run enterprises and large international concerns. These firms, specialising in the production, use, recovery and recycling of packaging constitute a closed “recycling chain” within the company.
Other important aspects of the activity of PSR include ecological education and comprehensive support for entities specialising in packaging recycling and recovery. At present the firm is developing co-operation with municipalities and municipal unions, where considerable emphasis is placed on propagating selective collection of packaging and the initial sorting at home.
